A prototype-stage autonomous biomedical waste processing concept designed for on-site, compliant treatment of biomedical waste at the point of generation — targeting India's 600,000+ small and medium healthcare facilities that currently lack compliant waste processing.
The problem we are addressing
compliance rate for biomedical waste management regulations among India's small clinics, diagnostic centres, and primary health facilities — the facilities that generate most of the burden.
India's Biomedical Waste Management Rules (2016) require all healthcare facilities to ensure the safe segregation, treatment, and disposal of biomedical waste. For large hospitals, this is managed through dedicated bio-waste management infrastructure or authorised service providers. For the hundreds of thousands of smaller facilities — small clinics, diagnostic labs, primary health centres, blood collection points — compliant management is logistically and economically challenging.
Our research approach
AutoWaste is a compact, autonomous dual-mode biomedical waste processing concept designed to bring compliant treatment to the point of generation. The concept explores a dual-atmosphere switching architecture — alternating between oxidative and reductive treatment conditions within a sealed chamber — to achieve effective pathogen inactivation and volume reduction without requiring the large-scale infrastructure of centralised treatment facilities. The processed output is intended to achieve non-hazardous waste classification under BMW Rules 2016 standards, enabling standard municipal disposal pathways.
The autonomous operation concept — a fully closed, sensor-monitored treatment cycle with automatic completion detection — is designed to require no specialist operation. A healthcare facility operator loads waste, initiates a treatment cycle, and retrieves treated material. No manual monitoring, no specialist waste management personnel.

What it's for
AutoWaste is a smart biomedical-waste solution that helps clinics handle waste safely and responsibly — automated, simple, and built for any setting.
Intended deployment
A decentralised test still creates biohazard responsibility. AutoWaste is designed as the infrastructure layer that helps small clinics manage waste safely where centralised systems do not reach.
When diagnostics move into the field, waste management must move with them. AutoWaste supports the principle that access should not leave unmanaged risk behind.
For compact labs with limited waste-processing infrastructure, a dedicated biomedical waste unit can make decentralised testing cleaner, safer, and easier to govern.
Why it matters
Less risk for the people who keep clinics running.
Designed to reduce what care leaves behind.
Built to work without becoming another burden.
From the smallest practice to the largest ward.
Care should be clean all the way through.
Questions
It is designed to help clinics handle biomedical waste safely and responsibly — framed at a high level here, without revealing the underlying mechanism.
Built for any clinic managing waste, and for the wider mission of reaching communities beyond centralised healthcare.
BIQADX is at a pre-clinical, prototype stage — AutoWaste is not currently available for commercial sale. We welcome partnership and pilot conversations.
